At least it was not pink eye!

Yesterday morning, I noticed that my left eye was a little red. I put in
my contacts and it felt about the same as always. As the day worn on,
though, my eye began to bother me more and more. By mid-afternoon, I
walked down to the loo to take out the contact and rinse it and put it
back in. I had already tried my at-the-desk eye drops. I bought them a
while back and left them at my desk for the 4:00 fuzzies. It took for
ever to get the contact back in. It seemed dryer than normal and did not
really want to go back in. Since the left eye is my distance eye, I had
to get that one in to get home. I almost called Geoff to bring me my
contact case and glasses. Then I told myself that next year, he will
not be at home to call in the afternoon, so deal with it. Dealing with
it meant taking off early to go home and get my glasses on. It was late
enough in the day that I simply logged on from home and worked some on
the project my recalcitrant contacts had interrupted.

Today was Reunion Group breakfast with Kent and the other David's (three
including me). Kent (the doctor) said it did not sound like pink eye.
By 9:30, I decided to take action and called Dr. Rudd. She could see me
at 10:30. Yeah! Well, it was closed to 11:00. She got her eye doctor
microscope and looked at my right eye. No reaction. When she looked at
the left eye, she stopped in mid-sweep, "You have something in your
eye!" Pink eye was now poked eye. She looked some more, flipped the
color wheel on the scope and looked some more. After some really nasty,
stinging eye drops, she took the appropriate surgical device (a cotton
swab) and flicked the offending speck from my eye. I was very thankful
it hadn't been a plank. Now I will still need the eye drops, but I
won't be contagious at all here or in Montana next week.
