Bills to Think About

One of the adventures of moving is finding a new doctor, dentist, etc. I still have not bothered with an optometrist, but I have my own dentist and internist. I have had a family practice doctor for years. I guess with no family at home, we do not need to all have the same doctor. As I rattled off my family history for the doctor, I realized how glad I am that so many of us are as healthy as we are. What with cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, the doctor started giving me a list of tests. Since I am at 50, there were some based simply on age.

Test number one was the proof that Annie is right about my shoulder. Well, at least there was nothing on the x-ray to worry about. Yesterday, I visited with the GI guy about my low iron storage. My blood test had my internist sending my to my GI doctor. Sounds like a conspiracy to get me to a colonoscopy. My Tyler doctor had been after me for a year or two telling me that it was coming up. Sitting down with Dr. GI, we talked about the fact that I was not sure why I was there. The blood numbers were low but not that bad. As we talked, I mentioned that I was always on the high side when I gave blood. "Oh really, how often do you give?" He sent me off to get some prenatal vitamins and the scope was scheduled--because of my age instead of my numbers. Once I did my research, I found I had given a double red the week before my appointment with the doctor. Yes, I had an extra bill because of the sequence of events. More importantly, all these extra tests have left me with a basically clean bill of health. Oh, btw, sitting at the GI doctor with worries of a bleeding something, my BP was still 120/82! Yeah drugs!

In her last few years your Mom had 2-3 ...scopes. She always came out with not indication of polyps or anything else. A couple of years ago the GI doc told her he need not see her again.

Glad you had a good report. It means more than it used to . I used to take it for granted.
