This time of year is always a gamble when you take a walk. Rain is often in the forecast and as often as not this year, on the ground. Lake Lewisville, near here, has gone from just over 8 feet below normal in January to almost 2 feet above normal on June 1st. That is a lot of water. A friend last night talked about needed to water a vacationer's plants if it did not rain. Last night's rain started between 23h00 and midnight. This morning's rain started before I had to help set up a yard sale at the Habitat recycle store. I did stop by on the way home from my voice lesson to see if they decided to do anything since the rain had cleared up. No sale, but they were helping with the weekly hot dog lunch for the customers and volunteers. They get a lot of community service "volunteers." So after lunch and a nap interrupted by a pesky alarm clock, I worked on some reading until just after seven. Since Geoff is at Bonnaroo this week-end, I had the webcast in the background for noise. Looked like fun, lots or people, and no rain. So, about 19h15, I decided I did need a walk before dinner. I grabbed the iPod but passed on the umbrella. I was ten yards past the parking lot when I saw the first spits of rain. Last time I saw this little bit fo rain at the beginning of a walk, I walked back to the apartment, got my umbrella, and finished my walk (just under three miles round trip according to Google Maps. I picked up a menu for Pei Wei on the walk. I will have to try them sometime. They looked very busy, but the new place always is.
So I made it most of the way home, I had crested the last hill when the light rain started. This was more than a spit; this was a light steady drizzle. By the time I got inside with a stationary roof over my head (as opposed to my portable rainbow-colored roof), my shirt was soaked through. By the time I got my wet shirt somewhere to dry, the rain had picked up. By the time I took this picture, it had backed off from full monsoon deluge to hard steady rain. Looks like it will continue for the next little while.
So, did I lose because I forgot the umbrella and got a little wet, or did I win because I got a little wet instead of washed down the gutter by the down pour? I won because I had my walk.
