I finally got tired of sleeping on the futon and making the "bed" each night. I was not about to leave the sheets on all day. So each morning, I have stripped the "bed" and turning it back into a couch. I decided that six months free money gave me plenty of time to sell the house. I hope the bed helps me to sleep a little better too. The salesman told me a good mattress pad was needed since we all sweat all night. I decided to dress the bed from the pad out. JC Penney had a big sale on bedding. I saw the sale when I saw that their mattress prices were too high. I went to three places to check the prices. One place had a floor sample that was $300 less than the next best offer.
The only problem with the floor sample price was that it was a take-out price. I don't know many people yet, but I do know a few guys from my Reunion group. The guys I work with all live out of town. I called Don first, but his wife Charlotte reminded me that he was out of town. I really had planned to hire his boys anyway, so I went ahead and asked her. She would have none of hiring, but said that they would be happy to help.
The next problem was the truck. The salesman referred to using a truck from Lowe's. With no phone book, I had to use the Web to find their number. Yes, they had a truck. $19.95 plus tax for the first 75 minutes. No you cannot reserve it; it is first come, first served. I tried U-Haul, but at 8:03 p.m., I was just too late for them all. This morning I called and called. I finally got a hold of someone at 9:30 (the bed would be available by 11:00 a.m. wrapped and ready to go). He had spent all morning too busy to answer the phone. The smallest truck he had left was a 24 foot. I gambled on Lowe's.
I drove by Lowe's and saw the truck there. I drove to the north side of town and picked up the boys who turned out to be Nathan and Stephen (the older). Boys in tow, I drove back down to my side of town and the side of The RoomStore and Lowe's. At Lowe's, we were number two in the queue. The problem was that number one did not have up-to-date insurance on hand and the insurance company had not faxed proof yet. Mr and Ms Forgetful were a young couple with a cute little Forgetful sitting on the counter. He and his eight teeth were happy to wait. After a frustrated phone call to the insurance, the Forgetfuls gave up. Yes, less than five minutes after they left, the fax came.
Stephen, Nathan, and I jumped to the top of the queue and off we went. I enjoyed watching their interplay (7th and 9th graders to be). We got the bed and wrestled it up the stairs. Thanks to the boys on loan from Charlotte, I am that much more at home in Denton.
