I am glad to be home in Texas

Never trust a blog entry that starts out with “Now don’t get me wrong.” Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved being in Billings over Spring break. What joy to see all the family who could come over, to sleep in my old room for a few nights! It ceased being my room a long time ago, over 30 years since I moved out for good, but I slept there last before I moved out. I suppose some still think of it as Annie’s room as she was the first occupant from our family. Funny how rooms get names. Our family room has been the family room, the music room, the studio, and now who knows. But, I digress. I was waxing eloquent about being in Montana. The drive over to Bozeman was amazing, the prairies, the foothills, the mountains, the Big Sky! I did enjoyed it. Pete said something about my visit being a reunion because all we did was eat, clean up, prep the next meal, and eat again. I even got to make my two most famous dishes for Pete and Dad, pizza and stir fry. I will have to go back so I can remember the goat cheese on the pizza next time. When I confessed that I had forgotten, I was assured I could get it right next time. Sunday morning, when I finally got out of bed, the snow even cooperated with a perfect blanket, enough to be picturesque but not enough to keep me in Billings past my deadline.

When I finally touched down in San Antonio, something in me said, “Whew, I am back home in Texas.” Granted I have been here just a few weeks over seven years. Baring growing up, this is the second longest I have lived anywhere. When we moved back to Billings in 1988, we stayed for almost 11 years before we departed again. Geoff has lived on Courtney almost as long as he lived on Cook. In fact, Stephanie confirmed that she was about his age when she moved onto Cook. I guess we make a place home by something other than addresses and accumulated years. I am glad to be home in Texas.

And how is your Canadian loving son going to think of that phrase - It's good to be home in Texas . . ."?
