When I first came to TISD back in March of 1999, I had worked for almost ten years at Gateway Software. I went from knowing almost everything about my area of work to knowing almost nothing. At least it felt like that. I also jumped from the support side of the fence to the programming side of the fence. Gateway had done some internal training at one point, but I was asked to stay in support “for the good of the Company.”
For the first few months, John was gracious enough to let me simply train on the job. I had an RPG textbook and time to learn. Yes, I did want to give up and go home more than once in that first month. Problem was that home was up for sale and I no longer had a job in Montana to reclaim. I did settle in here after a while and started doing what I considered useful work. I freely admit that I look back at those early attempts and wish they had someone else’s name on them. I have learned so much about the craft in the past few years.
So much for the technical stuff. I could go on about projects and accomplishments, but people are what I will take with me. For the past several years, I have had lunch most days with a wonderful group of mostly ladies from various departments. They will never know how much their friendship meant to me, especially through the roughest months of the past couple of years. I will always have a place at my table and in my heart for all y’all.
Since my primary responsibility was for finance, I worked closely with accounting, purchasing, payroll, and HR. We certainly solved many problems over the years and learned how to ignore each other’s cranky days.
I think Ann must have given me the most varied tasks over the years. She also stood with me and my family during many insurance battles. Many blessings for all your hard work!
While some in my department have changed over time, Betty has always been there to listen to my woes and speak kind words of encouragement. John, thanks for asking me to apply and having the confidence in me it took to get me down here. You have encouraged and challenged me in many ways over the years. I know I am richer for my time spent under your leadership.
There are so many other people to thank and so many stories to tell, but the bottom line is that my life and been enriched by the time I have spent working with the caring, loving, challenging people at TISD from March of 1999 to June of 2006! Blessings.
