One Step Closer

Saw Dr. Catino today. Five weeks out he said everything looks great. Now I can skip the brace while I am at home. That is a big deal for me. I still need to be careful not to bend, lift, or twist. Talking to the nurse doing the vitals, I mentioned I had been taking pains meds at bedtime for years to sleep better. I have stopped, completely. Over the past several weeks, I have learned to make the chair my friend. Since I cannot reach the bottom of either washer without bending, I have learned to sit beside the one or the other to be able to get all the clothes and the bottom rack of dishes. I have also decided my toes pick up as well as the grabber as long as I lift the items up rather than bend to get them. Rocket and I have had multiple long walks after the first couple of weeks. I do not remember that last time I took a 30 minute walk without sitting multiple times to ease the numbness. Yes, I wish I had don...

I typed this up for a friend I recently blessed with a portion of the 40-year old starter I share with many. So what are your recipies for sourdough (read: real) waffles. 3 cups unbleached flour 3 cups hot water Add to 1 cup starter and set out until very active Take back 1 cup starter and store for next time Add 2 tablespoons oil Mix dry in a bowl 2 tsp baking powder 2 tsp baking soda ½ c powdered milk (prefer powdered buttermilk) 2 Tablespoon brown sugar Prep 2 almost stiff egg whites Fold dry into flour, water and oil mixture Fold eggs into mixture Bake per waffle iron directions. May take a little longer than normal for iron.

I did it again!

A couple months ago now, I got all the way to Target to pick up a refill on some drugs (or maybe it was the first fill). I was walking, so I could not just turn around easily and be back before they closed as it was late in the evening by Target closing time standards. This must have been the same day that Geoff was having problems with his car. I had given him my Discover card number over the phone, a couple times, so the number was fresh in my mind. "I know this sounds strange, but I forgot my wallet at home but I know my Discover card number. Any chance I can get my refill; if you say no, I will understand." She let me! A couple months later, I got to Target, in the car this time, and was half way to the door when I checked my back pocket for that familiar bulge. Nope. Rats! Home is not that far away, so I raced back, got on the scooter this time and made it half way to Target without my wallet. Third time was a charm that time. So today, I had problems with scooter....
