Apple recently did a refresh of my favorite walking companion. Well at least my favorite nonhuman walking companion. Nothing bets walking with Suzanne. Better yet,my favorite nonliving walking companion. I enjoy walking with Emma and Patti as long as they keep up with me and do not get side tracked by odd smells or other dogs. Okay, so a companion implies a relationship and I do not have a relationship with my iPod. Being a device it can only respond to my input.
Can I start over again? Apple recently updated a tool I use often while walking to track my progress and supply great tunes. They did not add any features that scream at me to drop $150 plus tax on the table. Sure, the new features look great, but I don't need them right now. My phone does most of what the new Nano can do and it's paid for. There is a feature that would entice me to drop even more and $150 plus tax on the table.
The current script has line at the end of the desired distance, "Press Menu to end the work out." I normally set the distance for 2 miles even though my lap with each beast is closer to 2.25 (or 2.21 or 2.28 depending on my gait that day). Just think how great it would be to be able to press Menu and really end the work out as in "Beam me home, iPod." One moment and I have just crossed Bell and Windsor and a nanosecond later, poof, I am walking in the front door instead of walking the other four minutes home.
Think of the possibilities. I could walk in any direction and just "finish the work out." Think of all the new markets and accessories. Talk about "Wow" factor. I guess I need to file a patent on the idea now and simply wait for the technology to catch up with my vision of the future. Remember, you read it here first.
