The Annunciation

Gracious and Holy God, we listen for your voice. We listen to hear what we want you to say. We listen to hear what we expect you to say. We listen for you to confirm our plans, our hopes, and our dreams. When your messengers come, we don’t understand. When we hear your words, like Mary, we question. Like Mary, we wonder if you truly understand the ways of the world. Help us Lord, to hear your voice.  Help us to hear your vision for our lives. Help us to accept the challenge as Mary did.  We pray that we would have the courage to proclaim as she proclaimed, “Let me be a willing agent of change in the world.” Let me be willing to lay down my hopes and dreams for your plan and your vision for the world. Let me be passionate about making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Then Mary said to the angel, “How will this happen since I haven’t had sexual relations with a man?” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come over you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the one who is to be born will be holy. He will be called God’s Son. Look, even in her old age, your relative Elizabeth has conceived a son. This woman who was labeled ‘unable to conceive’ is now six months pregnant. Nothing is impossible for God.”  Then Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let it be with me just as you have said.” Then the angel left her.
